An diesem Cover mag ich vor allem den Farbton sehr. Man erkennt ein bisschen was von den Gesichtern, aber die Farbe und Flammen stehen im Vordergrund. Mir gefällt es in seiner Stimmigkeit sehr gut.
Über das Buch
K ist eine Waise und gehört zu den Residents. Einer von zwei Volksgruppen, die in einer zerrütteten Stadt mehr schlecht als Recht zusammen leben. Nachdem sie einen Bombenanschlag überlebt hat, wird K als Spionin rekrutiert. Sie soll sich unter dem Namen Verity Nekton der Brotherhood anschließen und dort eine radikale Gruppierung ausspionieren. Doch schon bald wird hat K Zweifel an ihrer Mission. Sind die Brotherhoods wirklich schlechte Menschen, oder steckt mehr hinter ihrem Auftrag?.
Die Story wird aus der Ich-Perspektive von K/Verity erzählt, dennoch hat es bei mir ziemlich lange gedauert, bis ich mit ihr warm geworden bin. Gerade am Anfang war mir Verity ein bisschen zu selbstmitleidig und hat sich zu sehr hängen lassen. Ja, sie ist eine Waise, aber sich deshalb selbst das Leben zu ruinieren ist doch arg dumm. Aber im Laufe des Buches entwickelt sie sich weiter und dass ist natürlich positiv zu verbuchen und so sind wir dann doch noch miteinander warm geworden. Neben Verity sind mir die anderen Charaktere aber zu blass geblieben. Selbst über ihre Mitschülerinnen, wie die freundliche und immer gut gelaunte Serafina, erfährt man nur wenig, obwohl ich sie dennoch mochte. Auch Greg mochte ich ganz gerne, aber auch über ihn hätte ich gerne wesentlich mehr erfahren.
Die Story an sich hat mir recht gut gefallen. Ein Mädchen, das als Spionin arbeiten soll, und bald nicht mehr weiß, welche Seite die richtige ist. Nicht neu, aber doch recht gut umgesetzt. K ist als Waise perfekt als Spionin geeignet, da niemand sie vermissen würde. Sie erhält eine falsche Identität und lebt fortan als Brotherhood und versucht, die freundlichen netten Menschen mit dem Bild von Terroristen in Einklang zu bringen. Gestört hat mich allerdings ein bisschen der mangelnde Hintergrund. Denn ich hatte die ganze Zeit das Gefühl, dass ich gar nicht so richtig weiß, was für ein Problem Brotherhood und Residents denn überhaupt miteinander haben. Hier hätte ich mir noch mehr Informationen zum Hintergrund gewünscht, denn so ist bis zum Ende vieles unklar für mich geblieben. Außerdem hatte ich vor allem am Ende das Gefühl, dass die Geschichte für mich noch nicht so richtig abgeschlossen ist.
Der Erzählstil ist angenehm und fließend und man konnte sich gut in Verity hinein versetzen. Vor allem ihr stetig wachsender Zwiespalt hat einen großen Teil der Spannung ausgemacht. Ansonsten ist mir vor allem im Mittelteil ein bisschen zu wenig passiert, während sich vor allem am Anfang die Ereignisse überschlagen haben. Dennoch hat mir die Geschichte alles in allem gut gefallen.
Fazit
“Verity heißt Wahrheit“ ist ein Debüt mit einigen Schwächen, konnte aber dennoch mit einer guten Story Punkte holen. Insgesamt fehlten mir vor allem Hintergrundinformationen und plastischere Charaktere, alles in allem ist die Geschichte trotz dieser Schwächen lesenswert.
