Das Cover von “The Gifted – Auf ewig Dein” ist leider nicht so wirklich mein Fall. Aber das war auch schon beim ersten Band so. Es entspricht einfach nicht meinem persönlichen Geschmack, obwohl es super gut zum Thema passt, mit dem Absperrband. Sehr gelungen finde ich allerdings, dass das gleiche Mädchen (Cassie) wie auf dem ersten Band zu sehen ist, und auch der junge Mann im Kapuzenshirt ist erneut mit drauf. Obwohl ich es nicht so mag, macht es neugierig, und damit ist das ziel auf jeden Fall erreicht.
Über das Buch
Nur wenige Wochen nachdem Cassie, Michael und Dean nur knapp einer Katastrophe entkommen konnten, gibt es einen neuen Fall, der die Teilnehmer des Naturtalente-Programms in Aufruhr versetzt. Ein Killer treibt erneut sein Unwesen, und als wäre das nicht schlimm genug, mordet er nach einem Muster, das vor allem Dean allzu vertraut ist: Der Killer kopiert seinen Vater, den Serienmörder Daniel Redding, der unzählige Frauen auf dem Gewissen hat. Und dieser hat angeblich Informationen, die er nur seinem Sohn mitteilen möchte. Er beginnt ein perfides Spiel, und Cassie und ihre Freunde geraten erneut ins Auge des Sturms.
Wie schon im ersten Band erfahren wir die Geschichte aus der Ich-Perspektive von Cassandra „Cassie“ Hobbes, die ein Profiling-Talent besitzt, und andere Menschen anhand weniger Indizien analysiert und Profile von ihren erstellt. Zusammen mit den anderen vier Naturtalenten – Dean, dem zweiten Profiler, Michael dem Emotionsleser, Lia, dem menschliche Lügendetektor, und Sloane, der Analytikerin und Expertin für Zahlen und Statistiken, nimmt sie am FBI-Naturtalente-Programm teil. Eigentlich sollen sie ihre Fähigkeiten nutzen, um ungelösten Fällen eine neue Wendung zu geben. Aufgrund ihres jugendlichen Alters ist ihnen die Teilnahme an aktuellen Ermittlungen strikt untersagt, doch erneut zwingen sie die Umstände, sich in den aktuellen Fall von Agent Briggs einzumischen. Cassie ist eine sehr sympathische Protaginistin, und ich mochte sie sehr. Sie handelt überlegt, ist clever und vor allem sehr mutig. Sie beschützt andere, wo sie nur kann, jeder Fall ist für sie persönlich. Nur mit ihren Gefühlen für die zwei Jungs des Team, Dean und Michael, weiß sie nicht umzugehen, und wir erleben ihre Unsicherheit und ihren Zwiespalt. Ihre Gefühlswelt und ihre Gedanken sind toll beschrieben. Außerdem konnte man ihre Entwicklung sehr gut nachvollziehen, und sie hat sich im Laufe des Buches erneut weiterentwickelt. Besonders was ihre Gefühle angeht, konnte sie für sich selber Klarheit schaffen. Und obwohl ich normalerweise kein Fan von Dreiecksgeschichten bin, muss ich sagen, dass es hier sehr schön umgesetzt wurde, gut mit der Handlung verwoben war, und sich nicht allzu sehr in den Mittelpunkt gedrängt hat. .
Auch die anderen Charaktere mochte ich wieder sehr. Den zurückhaltenden Dean, mit dem Serienkiller-Vater, oder Michael, der immer für einen Spaß zu haben ist, und einen viel weicheren Kern hat, als er nach außen zeigt. Obwohl ich auch Lia mochte, ist Cassies Zimmergenossin Sloane einer meiner liebsten Charaktere. Sie hat ein paar Probleme mit Emotionen und dem Umgang mit Menschen, und lebt für ihre Zahlen und Fakten. Doch gleichzeitig ist sie dabei so unglaublich süß und verletzlich, dass ich sie am liebsten einfach mal in den Arm nehmen würde. Neben Agent Briggs liefert dieser Band auch eine neue FBI-Agentin, Agent Sterling, die Tochter des FBI-Directors. Sie war ein interessanter Charakter, bei dem es recht lange gedauert hat, bis ich mir eine Meinung gebildet hatte. Im Gegensatz zum ersten Band fand ich es einfach klasse, dass man endlich etwas mehr über die anderen Charaktere und ihre Vergangenheit erfahren hat. So sind sie einem noch näher gerückt.
Einer der spannendsten Aspekte des Buches ist für mich das Profiling. Es scheint mir eine ziemlich komplizierte Kunst, wurde aber wunderbar und plausibel beschrieben, sodass man endlich mal nicht das Gefühl hatte, es sei so etwas wie Magie. Auch die kurzen Abschnitte aus der „Du“-Sicht des Täters waren wieder toll. Ein bisschen verstörend, aber ebenso spannend, und absolut nicht verräterisch, was die Identität des Täters angeht.
Die Story ist insgesamt sehr rasant. Bereits der Einstieg ins Buch beginnt direkt spannend und ich war sofort wieder drin. Danach nahm die Spannung kaum noch ab, und erreichte immer wieder neue Höhepunkte und Momente, in denen ich einfach mal die Luft anhalten musste. Die Charaktere müssen Regeln brechen, Hürden überwinden, und über ihren eigenen Schatten springen. Dabei kommt auch die Action nicht zu kurz und die tollen Charaktere runden alles gelungen ab. Und neben den in sich abgeschlossenen Fällen der einzelnen Bände, zieht sich außerdem ein roter Faden durch die ganze Reihe, der für weiteres Rätselraten sorgt.Fazit
“The Gifted-Auf ewig dein“ konnte mich noch mehr begeistern als sein Vorgänger und überzeugte mich auf ganzer Linie. Dank jeder Menge Spannung und Action, komplexen Charakteren, einer Prise Liebe und einem spannenden Fall, der es in sich hat, ein absolutes Lesevergnügen. Vor allem Fans von Krimiserien und Thrillern werden begeistert sein, von Cassie und den anderen Naturtalenten.
Band 3 (All In) erscheint übrigens im November 2015 in den USA. Ich hoffe, wir bekommen ihn dann auch ganz schnell.
