C.J. Daugherty, Autorin und Journalistin, lebt in Südengland. Sie war u.a. für verschiedene amerikanische Zeitungen als Polizeireporterin tätig, veröffentlichte gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Reiseführer und schreibt seit einiger Zeit spannende Bücher für junge Erwachsene. Obwohl mir das alte Coverdesign anfangs besser gefallen hat, muss ich doch sagen, dass mir auch das neue Design mittlerweile gut gefällt und die Farben der beiden Bände sehr schön miteinander harmonieren. Besonders gefällt mir der leichte Schimmer des Covers.
Über das Buch
Taylor und Sacha suchen gemeinsam Zuflucht bei den Alchemisten in Oxford. Sachas 18 Geburtstag und damit auch sein Tod rücken unweigerlich näher, und auch der Feind zieht seine Kreise enger. Doch wenn sie Sachas Fluch brechen wollen, müssen sie aufhören, sich zu verstecken…
Wie auch schon der erste Band wechseln sich die Perspektiven in dem Buch ab und wechseln vor allem zwischen Tayler und Sacha, aber auch Luisa kommt zu Wort. Mir gefällt es immer gut, da man so einfach einen guten Einblick in die verschiedenen Charaktere bekommt. Vor allem über die Perspektive von Luisa habe ich mich gefreut, da ich sie seit dem ersten Band immer sehr distanziert fand und mich einfach gefragt habe, was in ihrem Kopf wohl so vorgeht. Man erfährt sogar ein bisschen etwas über ihre Vergangenheit, auch wenn ich mir in dieser Hinsicht noch wesentlich mehr gewünscht hätte. Denn Taylor und Sacha hätten insgesamt noch etwas spannender sein können, vor allem Taylor ist auch weiterhin in ihrer Streberrolle, auch wenn sie immerhin ein bisschen lockerer wird.
Gefallen hat mir auch die Atmosphäre, die das Buch erzeugt. Die ständige Bedrohung durch den Feind, ebenso wie durch Sachas Fluch kam bei mir sehr gut an. Was ich allerdings nicht so schön fand war, dass sich hier natürlich wieder einmal eine Liebesgeschichte ergibt. Ich hatte es im ersten Band bereits erwartet, fand aber nun im zweiten Band dann doch, dass man besser darauf verzichtet hätte, denn Sacha und Taylor passen für mich als Freunde einfach besser zusammen.
Obwohl ich das Thema der Alchemie auch hier wieder recht spannend fand, hat mir im Buch insgesamt ein bisschen mehr Spannung gefehlt. Denn trotz der guten Atmosphäre hat es sich zeitweise etwas gezogen und auch vom Endkampt hätte ich mir dann einfach noch ein kleines bisschen mehr erwartet. Aber das Ende ganz am Schluss fand ich dann wieder ganz schön und passend.
Fazit
Ein Ende, dass mir zwar gefallen hat, von dem ich mir insgesamt aber einfach noch ein bisschen mehr erwartet hätte. Vor allem von der Idee der Alchemie hätte man noch mehr heraus holen können.
