Über die Autorinnen

Cassandra
Clare wurde als Kind amerikanischer Eltern in Teheran geboren und
verbrachte die ersten zehn Jahre ihres Lebens in Frankreich, England und
der Schweiz. Da ihre Familie ständig umzog, wurden Bücher ihre besten
Freunde. Nach dem Studium war Cassandra Clare in New York und Los
Angeles für verschiedene Magazine tätig. Sie lebt mit ihrem Mann und
drei Katzen in Amherst, Massachusetts. 2006 machte sie das Schreiben von
Fantasyromanen zu ihrer Hauptbeschäftigung.
 
Holly
Black wurde 1971 in New Jersey geboren. Sie wurde durch ihre
Fantasy-Reihe Die Spiderwick-Geheimnisse bekannt, die auch verfilmt und
zu einem internationalen Bestseller wurde. Holly Black lebt mit ihrer
Familie und mit vielen Tieren in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Callum und Tamara haben einen schrecklichen Verlust erlitten. Sie wissen
zwar endlich, wer im Magisterium ihr Gegenspieler ist. Aber sie können

Während sich die Kräfte des Bösen weiter im Hintergrund sammeln, gerät
Callum immer stärker in eine Zwickmühle. Da er das Erbe des Feindes des
Todes in sich trägt, könnte er dessen dunkle Gabe nutzen und für sich
und seine Freunde geliebte Menschen vom Tod zurück ins Leben holen. Doch
welchen Preis muss er zahlen, wenn er sich wirklich mit dem Bösen
einlässt?

Cover

Ich finde die Cover der “Magisterium”-Reihe sehr gelungen. Mit ihren Schnörkeln, dem dunklen Hintergrund und denn metallisch farbigen Akzenten sehen klasse aus. Ich hätte es aber noch ein bisschen cooler gefungen, wenn die Farben den jeweiligen Farben der Jahrgangsstufen im Buch entsprochen hätten. Dennoch sind die Cover super, und es gibt immer ein kleines Bilchen, dass sich auf ein Story-relevantes Thema bezieht. Das ist einfach sehr passend, meist versteht man allerdins erst beim Lesen, was es damit auf sich hat. Wie zum Beispiel mit dem Wiesel auf diesem Cover.

Über das Buch

Nach Aarons Tod in Band 3 wird Callum für die Ereignisse verantwortlich gemacht und im Panoptikum eingesperrt und verhört. Doch mit Hilfe von unerwarteter Seite kann er entkommen, nur um vom Regen in die Traufe zu geraten. Doch mit der Hilfe seiner Freunde stellt er sich der Herausforderung. Und diese ist gar nicht so einfach zu bewältigen.
Die Story folgt dem Hauptprotagonisten Callum Hunt, der mittlerweile theoretisch in seinem vierten Jahr der Ausbildung zum Magier am Magisterium wäre, gäbe es da nicht das kleine Problem, das er die Seele des Feindes des Todes in sich trägt. Anders als bei Harry Potter, womit die Reihe gern verglichen wird, basiert die Magie hier auf fünf Elementen – Feuer, Wasser, Erde, Luft und Chaos. Wobei besonders das Chaos für die Story eine ganz besondere Rolle spielt. In den ersten Bänden hat mir Calls Entwicklung gefallen – ist er am Anfang des ersten Bandes noch ein spitzzüngiger Sonderling, hat er sich mittlerweile zu einem guten Kerl gemausert, der von seinen Freunden geschätzt wird. Ich hatte gehofft, das nun, wo sei großes Geheimnis endlich raus ist, seine Entwicklung einen Sprung machen würde. Doch in diesem Band habe ich davon leider nicht ganz so viel gemerkt, und Callum wird wiederholt von Selbstzweifeln geplagt, die ich auf Dauer als eher nervig und übertrieben empfunden habe.

Nachdem das ursprüngliche Trio duch Aarons Tod zerbrochen ist, nimmt nun Jasper den dritten Platz des Trios ein. Er erscheint auf den ersten Blick zwar eher etws nervig, aber eigentlich ist er ein sehr liebenswürdiger Typ mit einigen nervigen Eigenschaften. In diesem Band hat er mit seiner Art allerdings für einige Lacher gesorgt, und die Stimmung immer wieder ein bisschen aufgelockert.
Am liebsten mag ich weiterhin Tamara. Sie ist eine starke Persönlichkeit und weiß genau, wo ihre Loyalitäten liegen. Sie ist entschlossen und kann auch schwere Entscheidungen treffen.

Zur Story muss ich in diesem Band leider sagen, dass ich ein bisschen Spannung vermisst habe. Es ist zwar einiges passiert, aber vor allem auf der Gefühlsebene der Charaktere, und nicht jede Entwicklung habe ich als passend empfunden. Insgesamt kam für mich zu wenig Spannung auf. Es ist mehr so vor sich hin geplätschert und nur am Ende gab es einen kurzen Peak. Aber der kleine Cliffhanger am Ende läutet dann ein hoffentlich sehr spannendes Finale im letzten Band ein.

Fazit

„Magisterium – Die silberne Maske“ ist ein eher ruhiger vierter Teil, dessen Spannung erst am Ende einen kleinen Peak erreicht und die Grundlage für ein spannendes Finale legt. Ich bin gespannt auf das Finale.
