Über die Autorin
Trudi Canavan wurde 1969 im australischen Melbourne geboren. Sie arbeitete als Grafikerin und Designerin für verschiedene Verlage und begann nebenbei zu schreiben. 1999 gewann sie den Aurealis Award für die beste Fantasy-Kurzgeschichte. Ihr Erstlingswerk, der Auftakt zur Trilogie Die Gilde der Schwarzen Magier, erschien 2001 in Australien und wurde weltweit ein riesiger Erfolg. Das Cover passt sehr gut zum ersten Band der der Reihe und zeigt diesmal einen Magier, den ich aufgrund des Buches für Tyen halte. Es sieht sehr mystisch und natürlich vor allem magisch aus und passt damit hervorragend zum Inhalt. Auch, wenn es keines meiner Lieblingscover ist.
Über das Buch
Tyen ist seiner Welt entflohen und hat in anderen Welt Zuflucht gefunden und dort seine magischen Fähigkeiten erweitert. Doch dann kehrt der Raan zurück und stürzt die Welten in Chaos. Valhan, einstmals der Herrscher der 1000 Welten kehrt nach jahrelanger Abwesenheit zurück und stellt Tyen vor eine unglaubliche Wahl. Wenn er die Rebellen für ihn ausspioniert, wird er ihm helfen, Pergama ihre wahre Gestalt zurück zu geben. Und auch Rielle hat es zwischen die Welten verschlagen und schon bald wird ihr klar, dass sie stärker ist, als sie jemals gedacht hätte.
Die Geschichte wird erneut abwechselnd aus den Perspektiven von Tyen und Rielle erzählt und gemeinsam mit ihnen lernen wird zahlreiche neue Welten und Charaktere kennen. Die Geschichte knüpft fünf Jahre nach den Ereignissen von Band 1 an, wobei auf die vergangene Zeit nur unwesentlich eingegangen wird. Ich fand es ein bisschen schade, dass die Charaktere in dieser Zeit keine besonders starke Entwicklung durchgemacht haben. Insbesondere bei Rielle ist mir aufgefallen, dass sie noch immer einen ziemlich beschränkten Horizont hat und ich konnte mit ihrer Art an Dingen fest zu halten einfach nicht so viel anfangen. Auch bei Tyen hätte ich mir etwas mehr Entwicklung gewünscht aber bei ihm war es nicht ganz so offenkundig und ich mag ihn insgesamt einfach viel lieber als Rielle.
Viele Charaktere waren trotz ihrer Nebenrollen sehr gut beschrieben, so mochte ich zum Beispiel Baluka sehr gerne. Valhan war ein sehr interessanter Charakter, auch wenn man über ihn sehr wenig erfahren hat und er super geheimnisvoll blieb. Toll fand ich auch das Volk der Fahrenden. Sie wurden toll beschrieben und waren einfach ein sehr angenehmer Schlag Menschen.
Storytechnisch möchte ich euch gar nicht viel verraten, denn ich finde der Klappentext spoilert schon einen Großteil der Geschichte – hier wäre weniger auf jeden Fall mehr gewesen. Außerdem finde ich es komisch, dass darin nie Rielle vorkommt, obwohl sie eine ebenso große Rolle spielt, wie Tyen. Alles in allem kann ich sagen, das mir der zweite Band ein bisschen besser gefallen hat als der erste Band. Dennoch fand ich einige Abschnitte einfach ein bisschen zu schleppend und spannende Passagen haben sich mit einigen zähen Episoden abgewechselt. Da hätte ich mir insgesamt einfach ein bisschen mehr Bewegung gewünscht. Ich habe das Ganze ja wieder als Hörbuch gehört und mir gefällt die Lesung von Martina Rester sehr gut. Sie hat eine sehr angenehme Stimme und man kann ihr gut zuhören.
Fazit
Mir hat der zweite Band ein bisschen besser gefallen als der erste Band, dennoch gab es für mich ein bisschen zu viele Längen, als das es durchgehend spannend gewesen wäre. Ich hoffe, Band drei hat noch ein bisschen mehr Feuerwerk zu bieten.
