Das Cover ist irgendwie ein typisches Mädchencover, passt aber sehr gut zum Inhalt und macht einen schönen Eindruck. Vor allem die sanften Farben finde ich klasse.
Über das Buch
An diesen Roman hatte ich sehr wenige Erwartungen und habe einfach auf eine gute romantische Geschichte gehofft. Und Venedig ist ein spannender Handlungsort, der mich mit der Vorstellung von Zauberhaften Masken und Romantik gelockt hat. Aber der Roman hat mich dann ziemlich schnell positiv überrascht.
Emily ist ein liebes Mädchen, das noch nie von zu Hause fort war und sich nun in das Abenteuer wagt, gleich ein ganzes Semester auf einem anderen Kontinent zu verbringen. Dennoch tritt sie dem Ganzen mit jeder Menge positivem Denken gegenüber und freut sich, endlich auf eigenen Füßen zu stehen. Kaum in Venedig angekommen begegnet sie dem gutaussehenden Luca mit seinen „malachitgrünen Augen“ und verliebt sich Hals über Kopf in ihn. Und genau hier liegt für mich der große Kritikpunkt der Geschichte. Diese unglaubliche Liebe kommt für mich einfach viel zu schnell, und auch die gesamte Handlung spielt sich innerhalb nur weniger Wochen ab, was für mich einfach nicht überzeugend genug war. Wenn man darüber allerdings hinweg sieht, ist die Geschichte sehr schön, vor allem ganz toll und mitreißend geschrieben. Man kommt schnell voran und es liest sich einfach schön flüssig. Vor allem auch die Beschreibungen von Venedig haben mir gefallen, und einfach eine ganz tolle Atmosphäre geschaffen.
Die Charaktere haben mir an sich gut gefallen, auch wenn mir Emily vor allem am Anfang ein wenig zu gutgläubig war. Aber ich mochte sie ansonsten mit ihrer Art sehr gern. Luca war natürlich sehr geheimnisvoll, aber von ihm hätte ich mir ein bisschen weniger Geheimniskrämerei gewünscht, denn damit hat er es Emily manchmal wirklich nicht leicht gemacht. Ein paar mehr Ecken und Kanten an ihm wären aber schon schön gewesen, denn er ist einfach sehr perfekt gewesen.
Die Handlung war, bis auf den kurzen Zeitraum, auf den sie sich begrenzt, spannend und mitreißend. Es passierte immer wieder etwas und langatmige Passagen hat man definitiv vergeblich gesucht. Die Charaktere harmonieren außerdem sehr gut miteinander, auch wenn einige davon natürlich recht Klischeebeladen sind, so wie Lucas eifersüchtige Verlobte, der niemals etwas abgeschlagen wurde. Alles in allem gab es immer wieder überraschende Wendungen, die der Geschichte einen guten Twist gegeben haben. . Sehr überzeugend fand ich dann auch das Ende, was mich einfach positiv überrascht hat und für mich einen unerwarteten und sehr runden Abschluss gebildet hat.
Fazit
Ein zauberhaft romantischer Roman mit einem überrachenden und runden Abschluss, der mich total überzeugen konnte. Lediglich die Geschwindigkeit, mit der sich die Beziehung der Protagonisten entwickelt, ist für mich ein Dorn im Auge. Wer Romantik ist Venedig sucht, ist hier dennoch richtig.
